Senior Vice President of ML Strategies

Tom is Senior Vice President of ML Strategies, a consulting affiliate of the Mintz Levin law firm, and Executive Director of the Mintz Levin Center for Health Law & Policy.

Tom also co-founded and now co-chairs the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC). C-TAC is a national, nonprofit, non-partisan alliance of patient and consumer advocacy groups, health care professionals and providers, private sector stakeholders, faith-based organizations, and health care payers with the shared mission to help provide all Americans, especially the sickest and most vulnerable, with comprehensive, high quality, patient-centered care that is consistent with their goals and values and honors their dignity.

Experience

Before joining Mintz Levin, Tom served as Corporate Vice President with UnitedHealth Group, the nation's largest healthcare company, where he oversaw UnitedHealth's federal government affairs. Prior to his work with UnitedHealth Group, Tom was Executive Vice President and Chief of Public Affairs at VITAS Healthcare Corporation, the nation's largest provider of hospice and palliative care. While serving as Executive Vice President, Tom was a Member of the Senior Management Team. Tom's work experience prior to that includes serving as Senior Advisor and Executive Assistant to former Indiana Governor, and Senator, Evan Bayh, working as an advisor on health policy matters with the Health Practice Group of Hogan and Hartson law firm (now Hogan Lovells), and serving as an associate in public affairs for Burson Marsteller, one of the nation's largest public relations firms.

Tom serves as Chairman on the Board of The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS). NCCS is the oldest survivor-led cancer advocacy group in the country. Tom also serves as Chairman on the transitional Board of Directors for the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (MLP), a growing non-profit organization that provides technical and information support for medical-legal partnership programs in hundreds of hospitals and health centers across America. In addition, Tom serves on the Board of Capital Caring. Capital Caring is a leading provider of hospice and palliative care to those living with serious illness in the Washington metropolitan area. Tom formerly served on the Board of Directors of the National Hospice Foundation, an organization committed to promoting compassionate care at the end-of-life. Tom has been a Member of the Business-Government Relations Council in Washington, D.C., and a former Member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University.
