Energy Funding Matrix
Unleashing American energy has become a key focus of the current administration. Meanwhile, some opportunities from earlier pieces of legislation, such as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which created dozens of grant, loan and financing programs for renewable energies, are still available. These opportunities were sourced across agencies and collected in a central location to ensure you find the relevant grant, loan, or financing program that fits your organization’s energy goals. MLS and Mintz have developed a funding matrix that serves as an aggregate resource to help you leverage federal dollars in your energy efforts. This matrix is updated on a bi-weekly basis.
| Opportunity Type | Opportunity | Federal Office | Technologies | Description | Submission Deadline | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| FOA fixed deadline | Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) — Speed to Power through Accelera… | Office of Electricity | Grid Modernization and Transmission | DOE anticipates $1.9 billion being available for FY2026. The opportunities under this funding opportunity fall under three topic areas. $427 million is available for Grid Resilience projects. 5-10 awards ranging from $10,000,000 to $100,000,000 and a minimum cost share of 50% are expected to be made under this topic area. $614 million for 25-40 awards ranging between $10,000,000 and $50,000,000 and a minimum cost share of 50% is available for smart grid projects. $862 million for 3-8 awards ranging between $100,000,000 and $250,000,000 and a minimum cost share of 50% is available for Grid innovation programs. Projects funded under this NOFO must demonstrate measurable improvements in electric grid capacity and system value (usefulness), combining physical capacity gains from reconductoring with operational efficiency and/or flexibility from other Advanced Transmission Technologies. The concept paper deadline is 4/2/2026. |
